Bardiel: Bardiel possesses Eva Unit 03 while it is being transported from the United States to Japan. It takes control during the activation testing of the Eva, causing an explosion at Matsushiro and breaking loose. The Angel takes Asuka in Unit 02 by surprise, defeating her completely. Rei is unable to fight, knowing Touji is inside, and the angel tries to merge itself into Unit 00's arm, so it must be severed to minimize contamination. Shinji is sent in Unit 01 to combat it, but cannot fight knowing that a human being is inside, so his father switches control of Unit 01 to the dummy plug system. Unit 01 completely destroys the Eva/Angel, ripping it limb from limb and killing it many times over, leaving a big mess of Eva guts.
