Israfel: Israfel attacks when Tokyo-3 is still crippled from Ramiel's attack so Asuka and Shinji are forced to fight it at the water's edge. Asuka attacks first and slices the angel in half. Unfortunately this angel is able to regenerate and recombine its separated body parts, forming two almost exact copies of the original. Those two copies then attack Units 01 and 02, defeating the two Evas easily (and rather embarrassingly). Kaji comes up with the idea for Asuka and Shinji to utilize a simultaneous, synchronized attack on the angel's cores while it is separated. So Shinji and Asuka train for a few days, fight the angel, and are victorious.
