Human Appearance
Wrapped around Zanre's forehead is a red ribbon, but it doesn't prevent his dark brown hair
from falling in front of his left eye. He's lanky and still getting taller, and rather strong and
athletic for his slender build. His skin is tanned from all the time he spends in the sun. If his
hair were loose, it'd fall two-thirds of the way down his back, but he usually has the long part in
a ponytail while the rest falls around his face.
Attire
Zanre hates dressing up, and dresses as comfortably as possible. He wears a red ribbon
to mark him as a member of the Salahtornai clan, as do most adults of his clan (though it
should be noted that Guensuna doesn't...), and usually wears clothes in browns and dark colors,
which don't show stains as easily.
Personality
Zanre is a sweet, good person. He usually means well, though he sometimes speaks without
thinking and gets into trouble this way. He hates fighting, and will only do so when he has to,
or to defend someone who needs help. Though he is strong and athletic, he hasn't really studied
working with weapons (other than a bow) or even karate, so he would easily be bested by a trained
fighter, but his strength is usually enough for his purposes.
Zanre's first love is music. He's always humming or singing something, although he is a horrible
singer. He always has a tune in his head, and is a composer as well as a performer. He loves listening
to music, and he loves playing music on his violin even more. He feels it in his blood...
Zanre's talent and friendly nature made him quite popular among the Salahtornai, and his charm enables
him to make friends wherever he goes. Heck, if he can manage to make Guen fond of him, he can charm
anyone. Life has been easy for him; he isn't lazy, but he is afraid of responsibility and having to
depend on himself. He has no trouble pulling his weight in a group, but if he's on his own he'll fall
apart.
All of Zanre's memories are of living with a nomadic clan who spent most of their time in tents,
and whenever he sees a "real" building, he can't help but wonder what makes it stay up and keep it
from collapsing without notice. So whenever he's inside, he can't help but be a bit on edge, afraid
that the building is going to cave in on him. He's not terrified to go inside, but he'll jump every
time he hears a creak.
He doesn't really have any predjudices about people he doesn't know; in fact, he's rather naive.
He's not really gullible--Guensuna has tried to train him in skepticism--but he's still a bit on
the credulous side. He's a dreamer, with bright visions of a future of fame and fortune. Guen is
always with him in his imagined future; there isn't any romantic nature to it, but he just can't
imagine living without her. He claims to be the only one in the world who's not afraid of her, but
that isn't quite true; he's only scared when she's mad at him.
History
Zanre was given to the Hsariansalah family by his dying mother, with a violin and
nothing else. He assumes that his mother was a musician and wants to follow in her
footsteps, so he started working on music early in life. In truth, his mother was a thief
who had stolen the violin and was running for her life when she ended up in Glacies, but
Zanre doesn't know that.
The Hsariansalah worried about how their adopted son would fit into the clan at first, but
their worries soon subsided. Parents were trying to bargain marriage agreements for their
daughters with Zanre before he was six years old. Zanre was the winner of most of the games
the children played, the best at music, the quickest learner with a bow and the smartest boy
his age. His eldest sister Nahaia spoiled him, but he was always more fond of Guensuna. She
was the only one who didn't think everything he did was wonderful.
He managed to grow up as a nice person even when everyone was doting on him, though he is rather
full of himself. He learned all he could about music, teaching himself when he had learned all he
could from the few musicians within the clan. For the others, music was just a source of entertainment
when they had finished their other duties, but for Zanre it became his chief purpose with the tribe.
He hunted occasionally, and helped out with others, but he found nothing that he excelled at so much
as playing the violin. No one minded--they adored him, and the music he played for them made the
work seem easier.
He discovered his dragon side while hunting alone one day, and got attacked by a big snow-cat.
He was running away, but stumbled and thought he'd never make it, and prayed for something--anything--
to allow him to escape. However, transforming into a little cat with wings wasn't exactly what he
had in mind, but it allowed him to live, so it's all good. He told Guensuna about it, and she basically
patted him on the head and said "That's nice."
He was eager to transform again, and did so in a place where he thought he wouldn't be found--
unfortunately, he was, by a hunting party from his clan who called him a monster, demon, and other not-
nice things as they attempted to kill him. He got away, but he was more than ready to leave when Guen
decided she was going north.
Warrior Appearance
Zanre has wings that are much too small to fly with in his warrior forms, and
cute little fangs (^__^;;). His hair and red ribbon don't change, but there's a
turquoise diamond in the center of his forehead that shows in front of the ribbon.
He also has a tail like the one he has in dragon form, and gold and orange armor
over a dark-brown turtleneck and pants. This is what illustrations are for...
Dragon Appearance
Foxdragons don't hold much of a resemblence to traditional dragons; they have fur,
long, lithe legs, and a catlike face. But their wings are covered only with dark, thin,
leathery fur, as are their lower legs and the underside of the tail. Also, they're tiny.
Okay, not tiny, but a big foxdragon standing on the ground would perhaps be up to an average
person's knee, and Zanre's not even big for a foxdragon.
Grasslands foxdragons are the most catlike species of the group, and Zanre looks quite a
bit like an orangy-brown cat. There is a turquoise stone in the center of his forehead, and
he has amber eyes similar to his human eyes. He's about the size of a bobcat.
Special Skills/Powers
Zanre may be little, but he's rather fierce for his size. Although he probably wouldn't
fare well against another dragon, he could take down a human easily, even if they were armed...
he's a fast little bugger.
Most of his skills, though, deal with sound. Not just music, although he can sing in dragon-form
much better than he can as a human. Or, at least, it would sound beautiful to another of his kind,
were there any around...to a human, it would probably sound like yowling. But he can use sound in
other ways...he can make high-pitched noises that can deafen and disorient an enemy, a low purr that
puts those surrounding him to sleep, and other noises that can bring about pain or healing. The problem
is, though the one the noise is directed at will feel the brunt of the magic, everyone within earshot
is affected.
Species/Clan Info
Foxdragons are the least dragonlike of the dragon family, but they insist that they are
indeed dragons and anyone who says otherwise will get an earful. The smallest are the Grasslands
clan, who also look the most catlike. The Forest clan look a bit more dragonlike, albeit still furry,
and are more muted in color and larger. The largest--about as big as a large dog--are the Mountain
clan, who look like almost as catlike as the Grasslands clan, only in gray.
