Attire: Rikou wears a large, sleeveless blue shirt with a slit in the back for his fin. He wears knee-length shorts that are a tan color, and short boots. Hanging from one side of his belt is a chain with six enchanted stones hanging from it.
Character Description: Rikou's father is a wealthy businessman, and he is the only child of Surudoi Unagi's second marriage. The youngest of his older siblings is twelve years older than he is, so he's grown up like an only child. He's been somewhat sheltered (and spoiled) throughout his life, and is therefore rather naive about many things, and sometimes has a tendency to overlook the obvious. In some matters, he has low self-esteem; he often whines that he will never succeed at anything, and he's a sore loser. However, his parents have given him a somewhat inflated opinion of his own importance, and he can very stubborn when it comes to getting his way. He is interested in the growing scientific field in Michad, a pursuit in which he received the encouragement of his mother during the time he went to school. However, she encourages her only son in just about everthing he does.
Rikou idolizes his father, who rose to his position of heading a powerful business after starting out as a small merchant. Though Surudoi Unagi didn't technically break any laws in his rise to power, the goldfish talasiths he dealt with had good reason to call him as slippery as an eel, and Rikou's older brothers and sisters seem to have inherited their father's slyness. However, they were all full-blooded eels, and Rikou is not. As a result, Rikou tries to come up with plans to outsmart people, but always ends up overlooking something and getting outsmarted himself. One way he tries to learn to be less easily fooled is to play card games--however, all his practice doesn't seem to be helping.
Rikou never had romantic feelings for Kwan. He met her when he bought a necklace from her, and she cheated him out of a great deal of money. When Rikou found out that a goldfish talasith had cheated him, he decided that, even with his goldfish blood, he still had hope and could unlearn his gullibleness. He asked Kwan for guidance, but she thought it a hopeless case. However, she impressed Rikou's parents with her shrewdness, and they decided that she would make a perfect addition to the family company. Therefore, they decided that Rikou should marry her, and have even consulted Kwan's parents on the idea. Rikou has mixed feelings on his parents' plans--he admires Kwan's business skills, but he doesn't particularly like her as a person; she intimidates him, and they have very little in common.
Things were getting very awkward, and Rikou was relieved when Kwan left Michad. However, his parents practically forced him to go find her, and Rikou set out for the forest, underestimating just what a dangerous place it is. Sparrow has a crush on Rikou, which he is aware of (though he pretends not to be) and rather embarrassed by.
