Jeremy Mara Delaine had been a devoted follower of Kaelor, and knew much more of him than the other members of his cult. But when she gave birth to her son, Jeremy, she began to worry. She did not want her child to grow up in the cult atmosphere, and when Kaelor questioned why she did not bring her child to him, she decided to send him back to Elorhe and keep him there, rather than endanger Jeremy. Her husband left her when he discovered that she had banished their leader, and three years later, Mara was dying of cancer, unable to afford treatment. She gave sephlim to Jeremy, making sure that he knew it was imperative that he not let it out of his hands. It was not cancer that claimed her, though, but an automobile accident. If she knew what Jeremy’s life was like after that, she might not have banished Kaelor. He grew up on the streets of Chicago, a very dangerous place, populated by outcasts who were not allowed into the indoor world. He remembered to hold onto the key, though, at any cost. Later that key became sephlaire, a magic sword that only he can carry and still bears the powers of sephlim. The beautiful Lucine captured his attention, and though he knew that he shouldn’t trust her, he believed that she could be redeemed. However, she betrayed him and attacked, trying to steal sephlaire, even though she knew she could not use it against his will. He had become unconscious, and awoke in a cage made of water near Dhanlir. |
