Information & Progress Report

It began when my friend Brendan decided to get a domain and call it risukun.com. I'm not exactly sure where the name comes from; you'll have to ask him. ^^; But, anyway, he wanted to make a T-Shirt for his domain, and asked me to design a little squirrel-boy mascot.

The first incarnations of Risukun and Risuchan were scrawled on the back of a Steak & Shake placemat during a midnight...um...dining session with me, my boyfriend Josh, Brendan, and a couple other friends. I was still thinking about mascots, but it was that night when a story started to form in my mind. The squirrels didn't have names, but they still intrigued me.

And so the Risukun manga idea evolved. Since the Risukun name was Brendan's idea, the protagonist of the story, Bryan, is based on him. Brendan really does have hair that long, although I had to cut down on the facial hair for the manga... So they're not exactly the same, but Brendan still refers to it as "his" manga. ^^;;

Bryan is the only character who's really based off a real person. Okay, Ruth started out as my own extension into the manga world, but she's not nearly so much like me as Bryan is like Brendan.

Right now, I've got six pages of the manga drawn and inked, waiting to be scanned so I can add the text. I can't say how long it will be until the manga is ready to print, but I'll do my best to keep everyone updated. Heck, if there's interest, I could even make a mailing list. Feel free to email me.
